SQL 2017: Release Candidate 1

Microsoft just announced today the availability of the Release Candidate 1 of the SQL Server 2017. After 7 CTP versions, the product is finally getting ready for production release!

I know Microsoft Marketing team wants us all to be really excited about the Linux version but I honestly don’t care about that (even though I was part of the TAP program to test this version since the beginning), so what makes me excited about this new release?

I’m really excited about the Adaptive Query Processing feature. Microsoft is investing heavily in making the product faster with less maintenance work to the DBA. My good friend Fabiano Amorim will probably not be too happy once they finish automating all performance tuning work, but I love this!

I’m also excited about the Python Integration. It’s great to see the product keeping up with the market trends and making the analyst life easier by allowing me to have in one product the relational database, access to hadoop using Polybase, R and now Python. “One product to rule them all” – J. R.R. Tolkien (it’s on the internet, so it must be true)

Anyway, you can download the RC1 version in the following like, just choose the platform you want to run and follow the instructions: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/sql-server/sql-server-2017#resources

How about you? Are you excited about the newest version of SQL Server? If so, let me know what is your favorite new features!
